Help strengthen your community through volunteerism and become a Sierra House Volunteer today.

By becoming a Sierra House Volunteer you can help make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. The Sierra House Volunteer Program offers you flexible hours and the opportunity to share your many experiences and talents with youth in a meaningful way. We welcome the corporate community, students, retirees, and members of the community.

You may be surprised how much of an impact you can make on someone’s life just by volunteering a couple of hours per month.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

Writers: Sierra House invites you to join our dynamic team as a volunteer writer. As a volunteer writer you will help write and facilitate monthly writing lessons for our quarterly newsletter. This activity is designed to enrich the lives of our residents through the joys of writing. If you love writing/journalism, here’s a chance to do so while helping at-risk and homeless young women. We are seeking energetic and creative people who can dedicate at least 2 hours a month. For more information contact Shahilda at (973) 678-3556.

Tutors: As a volunteer tutor you will work under the supervision of a teacher assisting residents with homework assignments. All volunteers must be willing to donate one hour a week for at least six months.

SHELP Teacher Assistants: As a volunteer SHELP teacher assistant, you must enjoy working with children and sharing your professional experiences to help improve their self-esteem.  Volunteers will work under the supervision of a teacher and learn to teach class lessons. All volunteers must be willing to donate two hours once a month preferably for a period of 3-6 months.
